Eddie Izzard Joins United States of Tara

British comic Eddie Izzard has been tapped for a recurring role on United States of Tara dvd .
In the Showtime series about a woman grappling with Dissociative Identity Disorder, Izzard will play a brilliant psychology professor skeptical about the disease. However, his growing fascination with Tara will lead him to explore the condition further.
The role will tag Izzard's return to American TV following his work on the short-lived 2007 FX drama The Riches. Izzard, 48, recently appeared on another Showtime original series, The Green Room with Paul Provenza.
United States of Tara Season 3 begins the following month for a premiere in 2011.

1987 homicide inspired change in cold-case policy

Charged with murder more than 20 years ago in the shooting death of a neighbor, Tho Minh Quach’s bail was revoked after he failed to appear in court for a hearing as his 1988 trial approached.

Now, after living openly in Boston for two decades, Quach never will stand trial on the murder charge after a Harris County judge’s ruling that the law missed its chance to prosecute because of a clerical error and a lack of effort to find him over the years.

It is the kind of case that makes prosecutors shake their heads, and is the foundation of the policies and procedures being developed by the recently recast cold case unit of the Harris County district attorney’s office.

Russell Turbeville, who heads the division, said Quach’s case, with all of its missteps , is the example prosecutors will look to when going after cold cases.

“The law is that law enforcement has to make reasonable, diligent efforts to apprehend even a fugitive suspect,” Turbeville said. “Once the defendant has been charged, they have a right to a speedy trial and if there’s a significant delay, the court looks at four factors and does a balancing test.”

Quach’s attorney, Dick DeGuerin, said his client was defending himself when he shot Loan Van Tran, 36, in the head about 4 a.m. on Nov. 29, 1987, in an apartment in the 7800 block of Tierwester. Investigators at the time said the pair had been drinking when they began arguing. Quach, then 35, surrendered shortly after the shooting.

He was charged with murder and released on $10,000 bail. After receiving several threats, he moved to Boston to live with relatives. He continued to make court appearances in Houston, until his case was put on a docket and no one notified him, DeGuerin said. Eventually his bail was revoked and he was listed as a fugitive.

Even visited Vietnam
Through the years, Quach lived openly in Boston, giving his real name and birth date to authorities several times for traffic tickets. He also asked for permission from the federal government to visit his native Vietnam, and passed through Customs during his international travels.

Investigators initially were befuddled in their attempts to locate Quach because his date of birth, Jan. 1, 1952, was incorrectly entered into police computers as “11/19/52.”

Ten years later, the error was fixed and the computer matched two men with the description — one in Los Angeles, and Quach in Boston.

Houston officials asked both cities to investigate. But police on both coasts put the case on the back burner, and police here did not follow up.

“Everybody dropped the ball on that case,” Harris County District Attorney Pat Lykos said recently.

The open warrant for murder finally caught up with Quach in 2008, and he was brought back to stand trial.

“That case was snakebit at every level,” said Assistant District Attorney Bill Exley, who led the prosecution.

DeGuerin argued that because Quach had not tried to conceal his identity, police had missed their window to prosecute him.

State District Judge Denise Collins agreed, calling the case a fiasco, a disappointment and a mistake that she hopes is not repeated.

It still haunts prosecutors.

Deadwood star John Hawkes joins Outlaw Country

John Hawkes will join the cast of Outlaw Country dvd.
The FX pilot is described as a mix of a crime thriller and a family drama and focuses on a group of people involved in organised crime in Nashville.
According to Deadline, Hawkes has landed one of four lead roles in the show, which also stars Haley Bennett and Mary Steenburgen.
He is expected to play Tarzen Larkin, the uncle of Eli. The character is said to be an important figure in Southern crime.
Hawkes has previously appeared in shows including Deadwood dvd, Lost 1-6 dvd and Eastbound And Down seasons dvd.

'True Blood' stars presenting at Emmys

Three stars from hit HBO show True Blood Seasons 1-3 dvd have been added to the list of presenters for this weekend's Primetime Emmy Awards. They are: Newlyweds Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer along with co-star Alexander Skarsgard.
True Blood dvd is up for the 'Outstanding Drama Series' award, but the show failed to garner any acting nominations this year.

Supernatural vs. Twilight?

Look, we know this isn't huge news, but it's worth noting that there is a particular Supernatural Season 6 episode title you guys might be interested in.

Yes, episode 6 of the upcoming new season is called "Live Free or Twihard." We assume that this will one of Supernatural's lighter, more comedic episodes that the show does so damn well. Sam and Dean might just find themselves up to their ears in obsessive, romantically-deprived fans of some sort of Twilight movie parody.

Popstar David Bowie 'denies Lady GaGa collaboration'

Popstar David Bowie has denied reports that he has collaborated with Lady GaGa on a track for her next studio album.
In accordance with MTV News, rumours began swirling last week when a supposed 'confirmation of recorded music' document appeared online featuring Bowie's name on a listing of the 'Bad Romance' singer's collaborators.
The scanned file alleged that Lady GaGa had caused the 'Rebel Rebel' singer on a track called 'Vinyl'.
However, Bowie has since taken up his official website to show that the entire story was a cleverly devised hoax.

George Lucas has revealed that The Star Wars saga dvd will be coming to Blu-Ray in Fall 2011.

"The set will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films, with the highest picture and audio quality, along with extensive special features".

Star Wars fans at the event even got a taster of the bonus material, in the form of a long-lost deleted scene from Return of the Jedi. The sequence (which is currently up on Youtube - though don't expect that to last long) shows Darth Vader trying to communicate with Luke Skywalker via the force and a very dark side looking Luke putting the final touches to his new lightsaber prior to sending the droids into Jabba's palace. All very exciting.

Despite working through a separation last year, the Medium star and Hung actor have decided to get a divorce.
"The split seemingly amicable and their prime focus is their daughter," says the rep. "They ask that their privacy be respected currently."
The actress first filed for divorce from Jane in January 2009, however the two reconciled later that year.
Arquette, 42, and Jane, 41, met through friends in 2001 and were married in Italy in May 2006. Their only child together, a daughter named Harlow Olivia Calliope, was given birth to in February 2003.

General Sam Lane and Lucy Lane, the father and wild-child sister of Lois, will return to in a late-October episode in season 10 on Smallville dvd .

On Tuesday, at the TCA Press Tour, FX GM John Landgraf made a few announcements, but none pleased us more here at IGN than the news that they'd ordered a comedy pilot from Reno 911! season 1 dvd's Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant called Alabama. Now before you start thinking that Alabama is about wild-eyed southerners, or even "The Inbred Brothers" of Lennon and Garant's sketch from The State, it is, in fact, an comedy set in outer space; set aboard the United Nations peacekeeping spaceship: THE USS ALABAMA. We the viewer will be catching up with the crew six years into their seven year mission to maintain peace and enforce treaties between planets in their jurisdiction: Sector 187-G.

Q:would they want you to change to Galaxy Nuts or something?
A:Oooh. Now that you pitched it, I don't hate the idea of calling it Galaxy Nuts. Hang on. Let me get over to my computer and just a quick "find/replace" and now working title Galaxy Nuts. Yeah, if we were doing this show for a network it would not be happening. As proven by our history with network TV. In fact, there was a show like this that the Always Sunny in Philadelphia guys did called Boldly Going Nowhere - which was aStar Trek complete series spoof for FOX that didn't go anywhere. It was quite funny actually.
Q:In the time since you started on cable, cable has now become the place to be. The place where actors and writers are dying to work. What's your take on the new cable landscape?
A:If you look at cable, hands down, anything ground-breaking that's happened on TV in the past ten, fifteen years from The Sopranos seasons 1-6 dvd collection to Mad Men box setto Breaking Bad dvd 1-3 has really all come up out of cable. We have been lured away from cable, which honestly is the only place we belong given our sensibilities. I mean we did an episode of Reno 911! dvd which was a note-for-note parody of Waiting for Godot, where Junior and I are waiting for Bush's motorcade to come by. And that's the kind of thing we want to be doing. Our forays into network TV have been disasters. I think that's why were so pleased right now to be working with FX. You can say that network TV isn't that great, but that's not true all the time. I think what you can say is that things made by committees often don't turn out that good. I sat down to catch my breath, hardly aware of what was happening when she came to me with outstretched hands, bearing a small white box, unwrapped and slightly soiled, as though it had been held many times by unwashed, childish hands. “For me?” I asked with a weak smile. She said not a word, but nodded her head. I took the box and gingerly opened it. There inside was a good dvd box set. In a flash I knew-she bought the desperate housewives seasons 1-6 dvd collection for her mother, a mother she would never hold her or brush her hair or share a funny story, a mother who would never again hear childish joys or sorrows. Matt Roush's thoughts about rescue me, the big bang theory

Question: I was wondering what you think about this season of Rescue Me so far.

Matt Roush: I'm enjoying the final season to a point, but I'm also rather relieved that Rescue Me is nearing its endgame a year from now . I've come this far with these characters, so I'll stay with it to the end. Rescue Me is still entertaining.

Question: With the ending of Rescue Me in sight,I have not been able to find a show on TV that has the right amount of comedy and drama.

Matt Roush: Justified is as dark as Rescue Me, and its flawed hero is almost well-adjusted by Tommy Gavin standards, but the mix of comedy and drama is very strong. I also recommend Nurse Jackie, the Soprano.

Question: I loved the Doctor Who finale with all its twists and turns. But what I loved most was the ever- elusive River Song. She needs her own show pronto. It would be nice to have a sci-fi show with a strong female lead. What do you think are the chances?

Matt Roush: Actually, wouldn't a female Doctor be a nice change one of these iterations? Sci-fi shows in recent years have been much more generous in creating strong female roles, from Farscape to Battlestar Galactica to you name it, but with River Song, I think her elusive nature is best played out in small and mysterious doses. More might actually be less where she's concerned, although every time she appeared on Doctor Who last season, I enjoyed it.

Question: I absolutely loved Wil Wheaton on The Big Bang Theory. I even enjoyed watching him on Leverage. Is there any chance of seeing Wil on Big Bang or Leverage again or on any other shows for that matter?

Matt Roush: He was just in an episode of Eureka, so Wil is keeping busy. Don't know if he could return to Leverage or Eureka—haven't watched the latter yet, being wrapped up in the TCA doings lately, and ironically having almost no free time available to watch current TV while out in Los Angeles—but with The Big Bang Theory, he is very much a part of that show's ongoing "mythology," so to speak, as Sheldon's nemesis.

Lost, Glee Win TV Critics Awards

The Television Critics Association Awards were presented Saturday night, and it was a big year for Glee. The breakout hit won three awards, including Program of the Year, Outstanding New Program and Individual Achievement in Comedy – the latter for the ever-awesome Jane Lynch, for her work as Sue Sylvester.
Modern Family Won Outstanding Achievement in Comedy, while there was a rare tie in the Outstanding Achievement in Drama category – with both Breaking Bad and Lost taking home the honor.Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof gave a very funny speech, in which he read from responses on Twitter he'd gotten from those who absolutely hated the polarizing Lost finale.
